Project update: W.A.I.T. Why Am I Talking video format

Last Friday, Ike from New York, sent me an article about teaching, which I read about five years ago. The timing for the re-read was perfect, because I’m about to start teaching weekly classes again, and the term teaching and classes don’t seem to fit anymore.

Here’s a link to the article by Carl Rogers: https://faculty.darden.virginia.edu/clawsonj/COURSES/DOC_SEM_PEDAGOGY/Carl%20Rogers%20Ch%2013.pdf

I’m still in the process of realigning my “teachings” with this article and my own desire to be an effective contributor to nonviolence in this world.

But one thing became clear last night, as I was talking to Jeantilette, the script editor of the W.A.I.T. Why Am I Talking videos.

I want to move more and more towards a collaborative and open approach. It’s so easy for me and for the person who comes to me, to believe that what I have to say is more valuable than what they have to say. Because this is the example I’ve seen happening over and over again in the classes where I was the student. My experience over the past 300 classes has been that together we create the teaching and that learning becomes more effective when there is a sense of togetherness.

Talking about this orientation with Jeantilette a video format arose that we want to use for the W.A.I.T. Why am I talking videos.

Format W.A.I.T. why am I talking videos

OPENING CREDITS – ANOTHER DAY MUSIC JAMIE LIDEL

Hi, I’m Yves from Amsterdam and welcome to W.A.I.T. Why am I talking. Where we learn together how we can be more toughminded and softhearted in conversations.

Today we have a situation that happened {DATE}

I was with {person and their relationship to me} in {location}

One extra sentence context

At one point this happened:

{Remark from the other person}

Now all kinds of things happened inside of me, so this was a great moment to ask myself: W.A.I.T. Why am I talking before I opened my mouth.

I want to tell you about what I did and I also want to learn together

So I want to ask you to pause the video and ask yourself this question:

What could you say here that wouldn’t come from a superior or inferior place, but from an open collaborative place?

PAUSE OF TWO BREATHS

I’m curious to learn what you came up with. Could you post it in the comments below now or after watching the video?

Now this is what happened in my situation:

SHOW SKETCHBOOK WITH ME PICTURE IN PICTURE

Draw myself and the other people

This is what I was thinking:

This was what I was feeling:

This is what I wanted:

So I Said this: SpeakUP & CheckIN

I was feeling {feeling} when I was done saying this and waiting for the reply.

REPLY FROM THE OTHER PERSON TO MY SPEAKING UP

I was feeling {feeling} hearing their reply, because my need {need} was satisfied.

You gotta share it to keep it, that’s why I share these little succes stories. And also because I want to learn from what you came up with. Because this is just one of the millions of ways that could also work.

Could you post your response to this situation in the comments for all of us to learn?

Adios and keep breathing

DISCLAIMER:THOSE WHO TEACH IT USUALLY NEED IT THE MOST
